The Annual Pamplemousse Gala Event

Against a backdrop of  homemade paper speakers emitting spectral sounds from nature, created by sound artist extraordinaire Liz Philllips, Pamplemousse presents its annual gala fundraising event.  Artists from five international cities have donated some of their finest work to be auctioned off at this event, including prints, photographs, ceramics, and unique single-copy popup storybooks. Ensemble Pamplemousse will perform “Pure and Adulterated Tones,” a concert of electro-acoustic chamber music exploring the building blocks of sound.  Proceeds will benefit Pamplemousse’s upcoming concert season and tour.

Artworks by: Dominique Ahkong, Don Burmeister, Marlies Diels, Caitlin Glaser, Adam Oestreicher, Wayne Parsons, and Chiyoko Slavnics.  Click here to view art.

Pure and Adulterated Tones by Ensemble Pamplemousse
Composers Rama Gottfried, Andrew Greenwald, and Natacha Diels continue their exploration of the building blocks of sound with "Pure and Adulterated Tones." The program of six compositions simplifies sound to its embryonic element, or renders it inconceivably complex, by focusing on interference. Two types of interference are examined; the interference created between sine waves tuned to irrational harmonics; and the inner principle of interference found within all sound producing insturments. Conceived specifically for Ensemble Pamplemousse, each piece demonstrates the extended possibilities of each instrument while maintaining the notion that simplicity can be found even in the seemingly infinite.
