Jessie, cello/composer
ensemble manager

Jessie Marino (d3esi: meri:nou) 1. v. creating dinner traditions while wearing boots. 2. adv. finding yourself in circumstances which are hilarious, unexpected, and often naughty.

Jessie Marino is a cellist, composer, designer and friend of the environment. As a cellist Jessie interprets music of the Avant Garde and improvises using as many or as few unexpected noises as possible. She has worked with ensembles and people such as KlangExekutiv Berlin , SEM Ensemble, Ostravska Banda, Red Light New Music, Alvin Lucier, Beat Furrer, Bernhard Lang, members of the Klangforum Wien and the Wandelweiser. She performs regularly with the electro-acoustic chamber music group Ensemble Pamplemousse and the intermedia performance ensembles On Structure and Tall Brown Boots in New York City. For her work as a performer, Jessie has received awards from the Stamas Family Foundation of Lincoln Center, NYFA Strategic Opportunity Stipend, the NoMAA Foundation and the Ora Lehrman Charitable Trust. During the 2010 season, works by Jessie will be performed by Ensemble Pamplemousse at the Issue Project Room , The Tank, and Clovers Fine Art Gallery in NYC.
Jessie also believes in creating art that will not only bring about awareness of the need to be kind to our earth, but will also actively help it! By re-using materials that tend to clutter and pollute our earth and re-working them into items that are either functional or beautiful, Jessie tries to keep these insustainable products tucked away in protected, personal spaces, rather than letting them pile up on our earth.

Upcoming projects include a full evening-length work of her performance piece Rot/Blau, a sound installation at the Gallerie Complice (Berlin) about writing letters, both digital and analog, to people you enjoy, and the completion of a new album of works for solo cello.
